WhatsApp is developing a new feature that will allow users to filter chats using custom lists, making it easier to find and access conversations with just a tap. According to WABetaInfo, this feature aims to simplify communication with the most important contacts.
Similar to the Lists feature on X, users will be able to create custom lists to filter chats with specific individuals or groups. As shown in the screenshot, these custom filters will be displayed at the top of the app, alongside existing options like Unread, Favourites, and Groups.
These new custom filters will enable users to quickly locate and engage in their favorite conversations, saving time by eliminating the need to scroll through long chat lists. For business users, this feature could be particularly useful for finding relevant chats, tracking new leads, checking ongoing transactions, and sorting customer inquiries.
However, the ability to create custom filters is still in development and will be released in a future app update. It remains unclear when this feature will be available in the stable version of the app.
WhatsApp is also working on several other new features, including AR filters and effects for video calls, automatic blocking of messages from unknown senders to reduce spam, custom chat themes for Android, and the ability to react to messages by double-tapping them, among others.
