Apple's highly anticipated event of the year, 'It’s Show Time,' is just a few hours away. The Cupertino tech leader is set to unveil a new lineup of iPhones featuring Apple Intelligence. The exciting news for current Apple users is that some of these innovative features will also be available on select existing devices.
If you're a recent iPhone, iPad, or Mac owner, your device might also be eligible for Apple Intelligence through the upcoming iOS 18.1/iPadOS 18.1 or macOS Sequoia 15.1 updates. However, note that not every device capable of receiving the latest software will get Apple Intelligence. It is exclusive to devices with Apple Silicon, including M-series chips in iPads and Macs, and iPhones equipped with the A17 Pro chip.
Some of the standout features of Apple Intelligence include new text writing and editing tools that enhance language processing, rewriting, and proofreading. Additionally, tools like Genmoji and Image Playground leverage text-to-image generative AI technology. Lastly, the upgraded Siri, powered by ChatGPT, will deliver personalized, conversational responses to both text and voice inputs.
Only two iPhone models are eligible for Apple Intelligence — the iPhone 15 Pro and iPhone 15 Pro Max, which come with the A17 Pro chip. The iPhone 15 and iPhone 15 Plus will not support these features as they are built on the older A16 chip, the same one found in the iPhone 14 Pro series. Users with an iPhone 15 Pro or Pro Max can access Apple Intelligence after the iOS 18.1 update, expected by the end of 2024.
Apple Intelligence will also be available on several iPad Air and iPad Pro models powered by the M1, M2, or M3 chips. Eligible models include the fifth-generation iPad Air with the M1 chip and the sixth-generation iPad Air with the M2 chip. The iPad Pro series with M1, M2, and M3 chips will also receive the update through iPadOS 18.1, slated for release later this year.
All Macs running on Apple Silicon are eligible for the Apple Intelligence update via macOS Sequoia. This includes the first Mac mini, MacBook Air, and 13-inch MacBook Pro powered by the M1 chip. The update will also be rolled out to all Mac mini, MacBook Air, MacBook Pro, iMac, Mac Studio, and Mac Pro models equipped with M1, M2, or M3 chips.
